West Coast Slow Speed Traffic Net

This website serves a group of ham radio operators who meet daily on shortwave radio to operate in morse code (an alphabet or code in which letters are represented by combinations of long and short sounds) at a slow speed to encourage new operators to join in learning to send and receive messages.

WCN was originally named Northwest Slow Speed Net (NSN). NSN had a very nice sound in CW, “dah di, di di di, dah di.” The first session was conducted by W7IEU September 2nd, 1958.

Band conditions usually limit coverage to the general area of the Pacific Northwest. Most participating stations are located in Northern California, Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. All are welcome, regardless of location.

The net meets daily (check the roster for the latest information). Each Net Control Station (NCS) is required to transmit at no more than ten words per minute.

First licensed in Fallon, Nevada in 1962, I was manager of the net in Corvallis and then Monmouth, Oregon for awhile around about 1976 – 78 and my mom, WB7OEX, after that.
